IRT Surveys Franchisee Successes
IRT Surveys offers franchise opportunities in the UK, and we currently have very successful franchisees some of whom have had backgrounds in building construction, renewable energy, roofing and insulation. No formal qualifications are required but extensive training is provided. Some of our current franchisees are family men with all the obligations a family entails, so starting a business is not just for the single entrepreneur. Stuart MacRostie – is IRT Surveys’ Newest Franchisee and Won over £120,000 in his first 4 months
Stuart MacRostie is the regional director of IRT Surveys based in the West country, a family man living in the Dartmoor National Park just outside of Tavistock, this is reasonably central for covering Stuart’s territory which stretches for the tip of Cornwall in the west to Bournemouth in the East.
A Big Move and a Career Change
Joining IRT Surveys early in 2014 after having spent many years in a building business in London, moving to Devon was the catalyst for Stuart to seek new challenges. Stuart has always had a keen interest in energy saving and modern technologies, and this led Stuart directly to IRT. After much soul searching and discussions with his wife and friends Stuart decided to commit to an IRT Surveys franchise, and simply hasn’t looked back!
After the initial training in Dundee Stuart returned full of enthusiasm to build his area and create a viable business. Although Stuart has only been trading for six months he has successfully secured over 120K of orders. Mainly through one large contract for a housing association but supplemented by building defect surveys for Schools and Councils.

With FLIR’s E-Series thermal imaging cameras, our team of franchisees can troubleshoot more effectively, create detailed reports and share the images with the Analysis Team in Dundee, via smartphones and tablets. We use these thermal imaging cameras because of the high resolution at 76,800 pixels (320 x 240) and accurate temperature measurements up to 650°C or 1,202°F with a high thermal sensitivity at <0.045°C helping us detect subtler temperature differences and heat patterns efficiently detect moisture ingress. They feature “auto orientation” which is a necessity for a survey involving hard to reach areas.

In addition to the hardware the proprietary software IRT Survey’s developed – Envision – energy auditing software lets us analyse and quantify the captured thermal images, allowing us to detect regions of potential slumped/damaged or missing insulation and takes known, recognised, government standards such as SBEM and SAP and incorporates their criteria to help predict a buildings performance. This winter Stuart is undertaking a large survey which will involve many nights of surveying, and well into the night and is a testament to Stuart’s dedication to the job. This contract has means that Stuart has been able to give someone the opportunity to train and work alongside him. Stuart is confident that as the workload continues to increase that he may be able to employ him on a longer term basis.
Murray ‘s territory is The Thames Valley which consists of the corridor between the M4 and M40 from West London to Newbury and Banbury including Reading and Oxford.
Having previously worked as a salesman in IT, Murray a family man, wanted to run his own business. Murray had considered a few other franchises but liked the mix of technology and sales that IRT Surveys offered.
In March of 2014 he joined the IRT Surveys’ team and underwent the training at HQ in Dundee.
Murray is building up his business at the moment, and with his strong focus on customer satisfaction, is very confident for the future.

Euan previously worked in the specification sector for a construction products manufacturer, Euan was looking for a new challenge that also allowed him to be rewarded for his efforts. 2 years ago joined the IRT Surveys team taking on the East Coast of Scotland territory Highlands and Islands, and Newcastle, so it isn’t uncommon for Euan to have been in the city of Aberdeen, Fife, Edinburgh and Newcastle all in the same week. In the last 48 months working as a franchisee Euan has won over £450k worth of business.

Ray is the Managing Director of the Greater Manchester Regions and joined the IRT Surveys network almost 5 years ago. From year one Ray has sustained a steady growth in sales for clients such as BAE Systems, Local Authorities, several Universities and large building surveyors to include GVA Grimley, JLL, DTZ, Mott Mcdonald and CBRE.
Ray pride’s himself in adding a very personal service despite being part of the largest framework of Thermographic surveyors in the country. Ray’s ethos is everything is possible and if we currently do not have a solution and he will find a solution.
This attitude has tested his nerves on several occasions and that includes dangling up and down in a maintenance platform of a 32 storey building for 4 nights to acquire delaminating tile data.
That particular survey has led to the development of a UAV Drone to allow him to undertake surveys from unreachable vantage points and will soon have the required CAA Permissions to operate during the day and night.
